Spray mops are awesome for cleaning your floor super quickly and without dumping lots of water on the floor.

I love my spray mop. I can mop my floor in no time at all. We have Karndean floors throughout our downstairs. With two kids, our floors get dirty pretty quickly. But now I can mop the whole of my downstairs floor in less than 5 minutes.

My Choice – The Vileda 1-2 Spray Microfibre Mop

The spray mop we use is the Vileda spray mop. It’s simple to use. Detach the spray container from the mop. Fill it up with warm water and a squirt of floor cleaner. Connect it back to the mop. You press the trigger to spray some water on the floor. Then mop it up. Walk around, spraying water and mopping as you go.

The water container is near the handle. It’s super easy to refill. The spray covers a good area, the length of the mop head. It makes it super easy to target where you want to clean.

The thick microfibre pad lifts dirt off the floor rather than pushing it around, making your floor sparkle. Throw the microfibre pads in the washing machine when they get dirty. You can also purchase fresh pads for your mop.

The mop head has a pivot mechanism, making it super easy to mop around corners and under furniture.

If you like to clean without harsh chemicals, the Vileda mop also removes 99% of bacteria with just water.

Advantages of Spray Mops

They are simple and quick.

They take up less storage space.

They use less water than a traditional mop and bucket, which is better for the environment.

It’s safer for people who live in your house because the floors aren’t as slippy after you’ve mopped them (because of less water).

They’re affordable and durable.

As most have machine washable and replaceable mop heads, they can last a long time.

Most have microfibre mop heads that attract and pick up dirt

You can easily target tough stains by spraying water in one area.

You are always spraying clean water onto your floor. With a traditional mop and bucket, you are putting your mop back into dirty water between mopping. So a spray mop is cleaner.

A dry microfibre head on a spray mop is excellent for dusting. You could have one mop head for dusting and another for mopping.

They are also great for cleaning walls and ceilings.

They work well on most floors, laminate, wood, stone and glass tile. You may need to change the type of cleaning products you use depending on the type of floor you have. But microfibre heads work well with just water if you’re unsure.

Great Value – Bellababy Spray Mop

The Bellababy is similar to the Vileda mop and is cheaper at the time of writing. The brilliant thing about the Bellababy is that it comes with 4 reusable pads, so you shouldn’t need to buy any for a long while.

Another awesome plus point of the Bellababy mop is that it comes with a window cleaner attachment. This is obviously great for cleaning windows, mirrors and shower glass. This feature alone is going to save you a lot of time.

It features a 360 degree rotating head, making it easier to get into awkward places.

The microfibre heads pick up lots of dirt and can be thrown into the washing machine.

The Bellababy looks like an excellent choice. The window cleaner attachment would sell it to me but the fact that it comes with 4 reusable pads is also a bonus.

Addis Spray Mop – Cheapest option

Another leading brand name in the mop world is Addis. At the time of writing, this is the cheapest option of spray mop in this article. So if you’re looking for something inexpensive that does the job, look no further.

Like all of the mops, the Addis features a microfibre head that traps the dirt and is machine washable. The swivel head gets around corners and under furniture easily.

Why You Should Make the Switch From a Traditional Mop and Bucket

If you’re currently using a mop and bucket to clean your floors, you need to switch right away. I promise you will not regret it. A job which probably takes you 20 to 30 minutes will now take you about 5.

There is no longer any need to wait while you fill up a bucket with water. You don’t have to change and rinse a bucket when the water gets dirty. Or clean a bucket after cleaning your floor.

Alternatives to Spray Mops

E-Cloth Mop System (Click Together Handle For Smaller Storage Areas)

The e-cloth mop doesn’t have a spray container. Instead, you wet the mop head in the sink. Ring it out and then mop the floor. This may seem like harder work but the reason I have included it is that it has a version that has a click and together handle. For me, this would be great as I don’t have a lot of storage space. You can break down the handle to easily store it when you need to.

You could use the mop with your own spray bottle which you can purchase separately or just clean out a spray container that you have that has run out of cleaning product (make sure it’s thoroughly clean – you don’t want to mix any harsh chemicals together).

The idea with the e-cloth mop is that you just use it with water and don’t use any harsh chemicals. It has a microfibre cloth that removes 99% of bacteria with just water (like the Vileda). Of course, you can use a squirt of cleaning product in a spray bottle if you want to.

iRobot Braava 390t Automatic Mop

Now being an “I hate doing housework kind of girl”, an automatic mop is an option that stands out for me, especially if budget isn’t a consideration.

The iRobot Braava Jet 390t can sweep and mop. It’s good for large spaces, so if you have a lot of floors to mop but don’t want to mop them, this is for you.

It comes with one head for sweeping and another one for mopping.

For mopping, fill up the reservoir tank, pop in a mop head, and you’re set.

It’s super easy to operate. It has sensors so just push the button and it will navigate the room, avoid your furniture and won’t fall down any drops!

The battery is rechargeable so just plug it in between mops.

Now, if you haven’t got a robot vacuum – I would get one of those before getting this mop. And you can get vacuums with a mop function included, which are well worth checking out too.

I’ve already got a robot vacuum and actually quite enjoy mopping with my spray mop so I’m not ready for an automatic mop just yet. But it is definitely something I’ve got my eye on for the future.
